COMMERCIAL SPACE – TOSHO KNIFE ARTS

For this Toronto, Ontario retail build-out, we delivered a complete commercial renovation which included a comprehensive millwork and cabinetry package. From concept through fabrication and installation we worked with the store’s inhouse designer to achieve their synthesis of Traditional Japanese woodwork in a modern retail setting. 

The space features custom slat-wall cladding in the traditional Japanese Shou Sogi Ban wood burning technique, which includes concealed hidden doors to other private areas of the store. 

We provided their showroom with ceiling-height illuminated glass display cases for the store’s knife selection with push-to-open drawers for secure inventory storage. Also in the showroom are maple cutting stations with stainless trays where the staff can demo their knives and immerse their customers in the authenticity of the space. 

The front retail area was built in the same style and features a custom black and maple suspended light feature. Also included in the fit out was the back office area, knife sharpening room, customer and staff washrooms. 

From layout planning and rapid prototyping to final fit-and-finish, every element was engineered to support product presentation, workflow, and brand consistency. The result is a clean, gallery-like environment with precision-built cabinetry and fixtures that elevate the customer experience while standing up to daily commercial demands in Toronto.
