We collaborated with Kinder Learning Centres to provide both indoor and outdoor interactive play areas for their locations in Oshawa, Belleville and Kingston. Their brand has a woodland theme and requires a tactile and safe environment made of natural materials for the children to learn and play in.
For the indoor play areas, we built play kitchens and matching activity tables. The design balances durability with child-friendly proportions, rounded edges, and easy-to-clean surfaces, ensuring it meets the daily demands of an active classroom. Multiple work zones encourage cooperative play, creativity, and role-based learning, while open shelving keeps toys and accessories accessible and organized. Finished in natural wood tones with contrasting details, the kitchen feels warm, modern, and intentionally crafted rather than toy-like.
In the outdoor areas we provided sandboxes, play structures, and Flinstones-styled benches and tables from harvested basswood logs. The staff can rearrange the furniture as they wish to encourage continuous exciting new play opportunities.
This entire project was a joy to build and reflects our ability to deliver custom woodworking solutions for educational spaces, daycare interiors, and child-focused environments where safety, function, and thoughtful design are essential. It was also an opportunity for us to break out the tractor and chainsaws and to personally procure our own logs for this unique project, adding an additional level of a one of a kind touch to the project.
